Newcastle University

Newcastle University exists to advance education and research, and to help society tackle the many challenges it faces.

As a world-class university with a strong international community, we prioritise societal benefit and sustainability, while breaking down traditional subject barriers. We co-create with our communities and collaborate with our partners to address global challenges.

We believe arts and culture are essential to how we understand, question, and shape the world. Through creative practice and research, we explore urgent issues, tell powerful stories, and open up new ways of thinking. Our work connects communities, challenges assumptions, and helps protect cultural knowledge for future generations - locally, nationally, and globally.

Through our cultural partnerships, we connect our innovative work with the public to address societal challenges and deliver social benefits. We are the home of the Farrell Centre , the Hatton Gallery and the Robinson Library’s Special Collections and Archives. Our strong connections with the Great North Museum: Hancock, the Glasshouse International Centre for Music, the New Bridge Project and a host of other cultural partners are key to our strategy.

As co-host of the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre (Creative PEC) with the Royal Society of Arts (RSA), the University aligns its cultural work with a focus on integrating academic insight and policy expertise to strengthen the UK’s creative sector - building the evidence base, addressing workforce needs, fostering engagement through cultural venues, and championing the strengths of the regional creative economy. Through our role as lead partner for the Creative PEC, and our connections with the Northern Creative Corridor – we chart a course towards a richer future enhanced by culture and creative arts.

We’re therefore delighted to be sponsoring the 2025 North East Culture Awards category of ‘Best Museum or Cultural Venue’ - to highlight the brilliant work of cultural organisations in the region and beyond.
