Newcastle University exists to advance education and research, and to help society tackle the many challenges it faces.
As a world-class university with a strong international community, we prioritise societal benefit and sustainability, while breaking down traditional subject barriers. We co-create with our communities and collaborate with our partners to address global challenges.
We believe arts and culture are essential to how we understand, question, and shape the world. Through creative practice and research and our focus on Creative Places, we explore urgent issues, tell powerful stories, and open up new ways of thinking. Our work connects communities, challenges assumptions, and helps protect cultural knowledge for future generations, locally, nationally, and globally.
Situated in and around our city centre campus, our cultural venues and partners invite visitors to immerse themselves in art, history and culture. We are home to the Farrell Centre, the Hatton Gallery and the Robinson Library's Special Collections and Archives. Our strong connections with Great North Museum: Hancock, The Glasshouse International Centre for Music, The NewBridge Project and a host of other cultural partners are key to our strategy.
As co-host of the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre (Creative PEC) with the Royal Society of Arts, the University aligns its cultural work with academic insight and policy expertise to strengthen the UK’s creative sector and champion the strengths of the regional creative economy. Alongside our connections with the Northern Creative Corridor, this work supports the development of a thriving creative and cultural future.
We're delighted to be sponsoring the North East Culture Awards 2026 category of ‘Best Museum or Cultural Venue’, celebrating the outstanding organisations that enrich cultural life across the region and beyond.
